As a man was passing the elephants, he suddenly stopped, confused by the fact that these huge creatures were being held by only a small rope tied to their back leg. No chains, no cage. It was obvious that the elephants could, at anytime, break away from their bonds but for some reason, they did not.
He saw a trainer nearby and asked why these animals just stood there and made no attempt to get away. “Well,” trainer said, “when they are very young and much smaller we use the same size rope to tie them and, at that age, it’s enough to hold them. As they grow up, they are conditioned to believe they cannot break away. They believe the rope can still hold them, so they never try to break free.”
The man was amazed. These animals could at any time break free from their bonds but because they believed they couldn’t, they were stuck right where they were.
Like the elephants, how many of us go through life hanging onto a belief that we cannot do something, simply because we failed at it once before? Failure is part of learning.
How many us continue to live the life of debt slavery, accepting 5G cell towers in our neighborhoods, big pharma, etc. Hey, we’ve been programmed as well…and as always we need to use discernment as much as the next person.
Until we’ve had enough…until we believe as a whole we can break free from the stories we’ve been taught and the stories playing in our heads for so long…we too can break away.
Beautiful inspiration.
What a fabulous creative tale!

So very true. What a great analogy. We can all make change and break away if we really want it and believe it.
I love this story.
Great teaching in this….
So very true and a necessary message, especially in today’s world!
Fantastic blog post!
Like the elephant that is trapped by the belief that it cannot break free, people are also trapped by the persistent illusion of time.
The belief that the past limits the future comes from the ‘collective ego’. The idea that we are all limited by our past. The present moment dissolves the past.
Yes! There’s only the now. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
Cheers!
This is a very profound truth! That story is so effective in conveying.
Thank you.
You are welcome.
Wow! That was short and meaningful. It is a good way to express your thoughts in stories because humans tend to remember stories more than any article. That’s why we listened to fables more than any boring speech when we were kids. By the way, it was good.
Live well. 🙂
Thank you! Storytelling is a good way to plant ideas in peoples mind 🙂
While others try and control us sometimes, most of the times, we ourselves put shackles around ourselves. It comes from our perceptions and biases. It is important that we set those self made shackles free!
Reblogged this on Trusting and Walking the Walk of Love! and commented:
Freedom is only ever a moment, thought or action step away, whether we know it or not. ❤
Thank you Kelly for the share. 💕
My pleasure Bernice.xx
Break away we must, and break away we will.
yes…we can. 🙂
Very profound.
I resonate very much with the point you made. It’s never too late to break up the routines and boundaries. If we stuck and need a change, we can only make that change ourselves. An insightful post!
…and break away we can if we believe. 🙂
