How Do Affirmations Work?

Some people say that “affirmations don’t work” (which is an affirmation in itself), when what they mean is that they don’t know how to use them correctly. They may say, “My prosperity is growing,” but then think, Oh, this is stupid, I know it won’t work. Which affirmation do you think will win out? The negative one, of course, because it’s part of a long-standing, habitual way of looking at life.

Sometimes people will say their affirmations once a day and complain the rest of the time. It will take a long time for affirmations to work if they’re done that way. The complaining affirmations will always win, because there are more of them and they’re usually said with great feeling. However, saying affirmations is only part of the process. What you do the rest of the day and night is even more important.

The secret to having your affirmations work quickly and consistently is to prepare an atmosphere for them to grow in.

Affirmations are like seeds planted in soil. Poor soil, poor growth. Rich soil, abundant growth. The more you choose to think thoughts that make you feel good, the quicker the affirmations work. So think happy thoughts, it’s that simple. And it is doable. The way you choose to think, right now, is just that—a choice. You may not realize it because you’ve thought this way for so long, but it really is a choice. Now . . . today . . . this moment . . . you can choose to change your thinking.

Your life won’t turn around overnight, but if you’re consistent and make the choice on a daily basis to think thoughts that make you feel good, you’ll definitely make positive changes in every area of your life. I wake up each morning with blessings and gratitude for the wonderful life I lead, and I make the choice to think happy thoughts no matter what others are doing.

No, I don’t do this 100 percent of the time, but I am up to about 75 or 80 percent right now, and it’s made a big difference in how much I enjoy life and how much good just seems to flow into my everyday world. The only moment you ever live in is this moment. It’s the only time you have any control over.

Once you’ve done your affirmations, then it’s time to release them and let them go. You’ve decided what you want. You’ve affirmed them in both thought and word. Now you must release them to the Universe so that the laws of Life can bring them to you.

  1. Very well said. I guess if you believe in something your efforts are directed towards it over a period of time. So the possibility of the thing happening increases.

  2. At the present moment I can see 3 Louise Hay Affirmations around me. LOL I have last years calendar…this years (you got a free 2015 when you bought 2016 early)…and a card i drew from her affirmation deck that I set up on my desk as well. If looking at affirmation worked i would be more than covered! HA!

I loved this post. I especially liked the part about them not working if your thinking negative thoughts all day long. I truly have to work on that daily. I spent so many years focusing on the negative that it’s taking a lot of practice to change that way of thinking.

    Great post!!

    1. You’re too funny. Yeah. Sometimes we can get caught up in the negative chatter for a few seconds/minutes but as long as we catch ourselves doing it and change it – hey we’re in the right track. 😊

      1. I first learned about her a couple years ago and in those 2 years I already see a major difference in my attitude. I snap back quicker. I used to wallow and feel so darn sorry for myself and I just don’t waste that effort anymore. I can get down…but i don’t stay down. 🙂

  3. Without personal belief (the action to support our words), an affirmation are empty words. The meaning of our words are always generated by the energy we place in our beliefs.

  4. I am so glad that your post was my the first thing I read this morning. The message is truth and you presented it beautifully-thank you. I am practicing this way and have been feeling so alive and expectant of joy! Thank you!!!

  5. Written perfectly!! I am definitely tweeting!! Thank you!

In my book, affirmations work as long as you keep at it. I am also in the 80%- ish!

    Have a fabulous day!!!

Kind Regards and stay on that positive path you are on – K
